Today is 1 month to the July bar exam. Today is a good day to think about where you are in terms of your studying. By this time, you should be well into knowing and understanding the law. Of course, there will be areas where you are still weak, but, overall, do you know enough law to make it through the bar exam? If not, hit those review books and try to memorize the law as much as you are able to in the next 4 weeks.

The next 4 weeks are crucial to your run up to the bar exam. Once you have the law down, you need to practice – and practice alot. Go through your practice essays and your MBE questions like the bar exam is tomorrow.

Practicing your essays, MPTs and MBEs will ensure that you know the law and you know how to apply the law. Application of the law will be the difference between passing and failing.

Resist those voices of people who tell you horror stories, or want you to stop studying and power down. Accept that you have 30 days of study ahead of you. In the scheme of your lifetime, the next 30 days is not a lot of time to get yourself ready or to sacrifice to get yourself ready. It’s worth your time to have a lifetime career as a lawyer.

5 Weeks Until the July Bar Exam

There are 5 weeks until the July 2020 bar exam.

Every day you must chip away at the large amount of material, taking manageable bites until you have mastered that bite and go onto the next one. As someone has once said, how do you eat an elephant – with one bite at a time. In other words, take smaller sections of the vast material, learn it and then take another section of the bar exam and learn that section, until, before you know it, you have learned the law, practiced your questions and are ready to sit for the bar exam.

Taking the bar exam is not a sprint. You cannot do everything in one day. Florida’s Covid 19 Infections are Spiking, Will Florida Have to Delay the Bar Exam?

The Florida bar exam is only 5 weeks away. The Florida Board of Bar Examiners made a decision to hold the bar exam in July despite the Corona virus infecting the United States. About 19 states have delayed the bar exam until September or October.

The Florida Board’s plan to proceed with the bar exam in July was based on currently available public health information. The Florida Board noted that as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, that information may change and the Court and the Board may consider other options, including postponing the July exam.

However, it seems like Florida is becoming the new epicenter of the Corona virus. The number of infections are spreading in Florida with over 3000 new cases per day.

In light of the new infections of Corona virus, will Florida delay the bar exam?

Applicants are expected to check the Florida Board’s website regularly for additional announcements about the July 2020 bar examination.

New York BOLE is Quietly Expanding the Pool of Bar Exam Takers for September, Contact the MBE & UBE Testing Institute for Help

Previously, New York has said no to anyone but first time takers from New York law schools in sitting for the September 9th bar exam, since they will have limited seating capacity. If seating remained available, New York BOLE promised to open the application period to a larger pool of candidates.

Washington Is the Second State to Adopt a Diploma Privilege. Is the NCBE Worried that Other States Will Follow?

Washington state has become the second jurisdiction to adopt an emergency diploma privilege amid the COVID pandemic, allowing law graduates from an ABA accredited law school & are currently registered in Washington to skip the bar exam, including repeat takers. The exam will be held in July & September for those who do not qualify. It’s a “temporary” order, so next year’s prospective bar members would still have to take the bar; but it looks like anyone who qualifies this year will get permanent Washington bar membership status. This sort of “diploma privilege” had also long been available in Wisconsin, but only to graduates of the Wisconsin law schools (University of Wisconsin and Marquette); this is open to graduates of all ABA-accredited law schools. In addition, Utah has also granted a diploma privilege with qualified candidates who have submitted an application to take the Utah bar exam on or before April 1, 2020; must have graduated from a law school with an overall first-time passage rater of 86% or greater in 2019.
